Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed the images in the Gallery. I’m Donald Ray “D Ray” Rotchadl and have been on a multi decade journey photographing and exploring the outdoors and wild places. I’m currently based in Minnesota, USA with the majority of my hiking, backpacking, biking and paddling focused west of the Mississippi.
My photography journey has been an extension of my exploration and time in the outdoors. There’s something special about being in nature when light, shadow and form all come together into something beautiful. Photography is a way to express myself creatively and share the splendor and magic of nature. Some of the best images are not in the Gallery, nor were they captured in camera. There are times when the truly epic simply needs to be observed, and I watch the spectacle unfold.
Like many nature photographers I’ve been inspired by Ansel, Galen, Art, Dave and others that have been at the highest levels of the craft. I’ve also taken inspiration from the people that lived in, roamed, and explored west of the 100th meridian.
